Jersey Shore Meets Korea-Town
Tyrese Gibson, who starred in Transformers and Too Fast Too Furious, has confirmed on his Twitter about his new upcoming show featuring the yellow people from the East: ASIANS. Or more specifically, he’s targeting the Korean American population for another spin-off from Jersey Shore.
This I gotta see. If only they could come to Canada – Toronto would show them what’s up! I’d so apply for it too, hahah.
Koreans in the house, make some noiiiiiseeeeeeeee. *Brings in the karaoke machine*
___
On another note: I’m noticing a terrible trend amongst guys that I know, and what’s worse is that I’m nearly always involved.. plus it’s usually a type of “home-wrecking” position (7th time’s the charm…) I’d like to meet a guy who’s completely single and can hold my attention span for more than three days.

A Jersey Shore-like show set in K-Town?!
Holy shit. I caught whiff of this on allkpop.com and this shit is going to be crazy. It's definitely got potential to be one of the trashiest shows in reality television history. It's even more funny, since there's no one going to be watching it because it's an ethnic group that the majority of America knows absolutely nothing about. I can seriously imagine the first episode now…
Generic looking Korean dude with a bad tattoo saying, "Yo. My name's Jonathan Kim, but my buddies all call me KP, for Korean pride, because I love being Korean.
Here's the real kicker though, Tyrese, most famous for his amazing performance in 2 Fast 2 Furious alongside Paul Walker, is the co-producer. Holy shit, this is going to be great.

"Jersey Shore" Spinoffs Now Casting Persians, Asians, Russians
Lordy — The power of “GTL” just keeps on pumpin’ those fists: Are you a young-looking, hard-partying Persian? If so, MTV wants to talk to you! The production company behind the network’s breakout reality hit Jersey Shore is casting Persian-Americans who think they’ve got what it takes to be the next Snooki or Pauly D.
(…..MTV will not be sticking a fork in this damn franchise unless somebody marches on Washington…..)
On Thursday, Doron Ofir Casting and 495 Productions announced that they’re casting an “all-Persian” version of the politically-incorrect and culturally-divisive trainwreck about young Italian-Americans pissing their parents money away at the beach.
According to Gawker.com, which was first to obtain the new casting call, network producers are looking for applicants who are 21 or older and “appear younger than 30 and are outrageous, outspoken and a proud Persian-American.”
The second season of Jersey Shore went into production in Miami over the weekend. The show is the most successful unscripted series in MTV history.
This is the fourth Jersey Shore spinoff series announced this year — just in case you’re keeping tabs.
On Monday, Ofir Casting revealed that they are currently casting for numerous future installments of the controversial show. In addition, a Russian-American adaptation of Jersey Shore, not affiliated with MTV and set in Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach community, is also in the works. Finally, singer-actor Tyrese Gibson is producing an Asian-American reality show set in LA’s Koreatown. A post on Craigslist said Black Ty’d “looking for beautiful Asian-Americans with lively, strong, and unique personalities between the ages of 18 to 30 with equally interesting life stories and perspectives to share.”

But could Koreatown fight the beat?
“Looking for interesting, attractive, colorful Asian-Americans to cast in a reality show similar to ‘Jersey Shore,’ ‘Real World,’ ‘The Hills,’ etc. . .” the notice reads.
“We need attractive Asian-Americans with lively, strong and unique personalities between the ages of 18 to 30 with equally interesting life stories and perspectives to share, especially individuals who know about and/or experienced the Koreatown life.”
Casting isn’t limited strictly to Asian-Americans either.
“If you are not Asian but are obsessed with Asian culture or people in some way, email us and please explain,” it said.
Via Asian-American ‘Jersey Shore’ puts out casting calls – NYPOST.com.
Everyone read that last line? Apparently the network that might be MTV has discovered Yellow Fever. I am personally really looking forward to some pasty White Comic-Con nerd with a sword collection learning three Asian languages to submit a tape and get on the show. (Look at me! I stereotyped!)
Of course this brings up a lot of concern from Asian American communities – What stereotypes will this drudge up? Not that I condone the perpetuation of manipulated images of minorities in the media, but a part of me thinks this is a necessary step for more natural (second nature, less forced/token) integration of Asians in American media. Asian Americans pretty much own America’s Best Dance Crew, but you don’t hear MTV piping up about it, only minority media outlets. Unfortunately, I think every minority racial group will have to go through its bamboozled moment, because this is mainstream exposure that will hit the masses. And hey, even I enjoyed Jersey Shore. People who try out volunteer their lives, their drama, and probably their class. It is up to us to recognize the image they portray as their own personality, scripted and edited down to memorable soundbytes.
Like Snookie and the types before her, maybe this KTown group will feel like they’re reclaiming the AA image. (Side note: Snookie’s not Italian! She was raised Italian American, and you know I’m all for a person’s right to self-identify. Go ‘head, Snookie. Be Italian.)

Here Come the Jersey Shore Spin-Offs
by: Bethany Larson
Last December, The Jersey Shore became a pop culture phenomenon. Not only do the juiced up and overly-tan Italian-American cast members have a hit show, they’ve made the rounds on the late night talk show circuit, re-enacted the Best Picture nominated films, and introduced a new dance craze.
Now other proud hyphenated American groups want to cash in on the of-the-moment fervor and as a result there have been several casting calls for shows that are using The Jersey Shore formula. We’ve already told you about the L.E.S. version, but after the jump we’ve rounded up other shows that are in the works and added one that we’d like to see.
The Asian-American Version Found in the Help Wanted section of LA’s Craigslist, Tyrese Gibson’s HQ Pictures is looking for “beautiful Asian-Americans with lively, strong, and unique personalities between the ages of 18 to 30 with equally interesting life stories and perspectives to share.” But that’s not all folks. They’re also encouraging those who “are not Asian but are obsessed with Asian culture or people in some way” to apply as well. We think that part is way creepy.

Jersey Shore's Spin-Offs: Asians, Persians, and Russians Wanted
The producers who made Jersey Shore are now working on literally-named spin-off The Persian Version. This is in addition to the Asian version in L.A. and the Russian version in Brighton Beach. Reality television: 21C minstrel shows?
Los Angeles' Asian version specifies Koreatown but is open to all Asians as well as fetishists: "If you are not Asian but are obsessed with Asian culture or people in some way, email us and please explain."
Brooklyn's Brighton Beach is offering Russkies to counter Jersey's guidos: "There will be plenty of vodka, techno music and guys wearing Adidas pants, leather jackets and gold chains, and driving souped-up cars."
And now, the casting call for Persians in Beverly Hills:

Tyrese Gibson To Co-Produce Asian 'Jersey Shore' In Koreatown?
Posted by WebMonkey
Looks like Tyrese Gibson is set to co-producer an Asian version of “Jersey Shore.” But this time it’ll be set up in Koreatown in Los Angeles/Hollywood featuring young Asian-Americans.
From our source:
“It looks like Koreatown will be the birth of a new hit-reality show featuring Asian-Americans with unique personalities and entertaining life experiences. It’s intriguing because it will be the first Asian-American based reality TV show!”
According to a Craigslist posting, a production company is “looking for interesting, attractive, colorful Asian-Americans to cast in a reality show similar to JERSEY SHORE, REAL WORLD, THE HILLS, etc. We need attractive Asian-Americans with lively, strong, and unique personalities between the ages of 18 to 30 with equally interesting life stories and perspectives to share, especially individuals who know about and/or experienced the Koreatown life.”
Yes, just what the world needs more of, Jersey Shore ripoffs! The abomination of MTV’s original “Jersey Shore” drew controversy over its negative portrayal and stereotypes of Italian-American. But with all the hype surrounding unequal casting in M. Night’s “The Last Airbender,” I suppose it only makes sense that Asian-Americans now get the equal opportunity to be stereotyped and negatively portrayed on national television.
Honestly, I don’t need to watch “Koreatown” to know that there will probably be a lot of drinking and false macho posturing. Like “Jersey Shore,” thanks but no thanks.

Tyrese Co-Producing Asian Jersey Shore in Koreatown
Umm that’s a headline we never expected to see. Nonetheless, the news is out that Tyrese Gibson (of the“Sweet Lady” and Baby Boy fame is getting his producer on, with the announcement that the Transformersstar is co-producing the first Asian-American reality show, which focuses on “interesting, attractive, colorful Asian-Americans” who know about or have lived in Koreatown. The show posted a casting call on Craigslist looking for subjects from 18 to 30, describing the show as “similar to JERSEY SHORE, REAL WORLD, THE HILLS, etc.” And just when you thought this was all an internet hoax? Tyrese goes on aTwitter rant about how he’s chilling in Koreatown doing research for the show. Just when you thought Italian-Americans looked trashy? Just wait until Tyrese digs to the bottom of the trash bin for this one.

Now Casting: 'Jersey Shore' for Asian-Americans
The New York Post recently came across acasting notice for "interesting, attractive, colorful Asian-Americans to cast in a reality show similar to 'Jersey Shore'" in the Help Wanted section of the Los Angeles Craigslist. The ad claims to be from HQ Pictures, a production company started by actor-model Tyrese Gibson.
This new series comes hot on the heels of 'Brighton Beach' and 'Sunset Daze,' which have been dubbed 'Jersey Shore' for the Russian-American community and the elderly, respectively.
So when is enough enough?
'Jersey Shore' has proven to be a runaway hit for MTV, but can these counterfeit counterparts possibly live up to the success of the original? While 'Brighton Beach' is still in pre-production, 'Sunset Daze' has already won rave reviews from an initially skeptical public. The geriatric cast of the WE reality show may not get into as many physical altercations as the Jersey kids, but they still dance, drink and bring the drama like their beach house brethren.
Although summer may come and go, romances fizzle and tans fade, 'Jersey Shore,' much like the hair gel that keeps Pauly D so fresh, will stay strong for a long time to come.
