The good folks over at @channelAPA have a cool article about the recently revealed Asian American reality show set in Koreatown in Los Angeles, CA. Actor/singer/model Tyrese is heading up the production of this show. Head on over to channelAPA.com to read the whole article.

My thoughts on this show? Initially I was kinda worried since it was hinted that Mtv’s Jersey Shore was one of the inspirations for it. Would this portray Asian Americans in a bad light? Would Asian Americans clubbing and drinking on TV be detrimental to the “cause”? I say no. I have no idea how this show will ultimately be presented or marketed, but if the main purpose of the show is to show the “average night life” of Asian Americans in Koreatown then this can only be a good thing. It could potentially be ground breaking in terms of shattering previous misconceptions of Asian Americans held by your average television viewing audience. We are usually portrayed on television as either the “model minority” or the nerdy foreign exchange student with the heavy accent. Or were a doctor or scientist. Why can’t we also be just as stupidly drunk on TV like the rest of America?

Time will tell if this little experiment will be a success or failure. In the mean time if you’d like to actually be on the show read the channelAPA.com article to find the details on the casting call. Also, tell us your thoughts on this show in the comments below.
