"Jersey Shore" for Asian-Americans!!!!

by Sofa King

allamericangirl-lrg12553110_std1Tyrese Gibson (Transformers, 2 Fast 2 Furious) is co-producing a “Jersey Shore” type Reality Show set in LA’s Koreatown. That’s right folks. A casting call for Asian-Americans or just plain Americans with Asian fetishes is underway.

Here are some excerpts from the LA Craigslist casting call:

“Looking for interesting, attractive, colorful Asian-americans to cast in a reality show similar to ‘Jersey Shore,’ ‘Real World,’ ‘The Hills, ‘etc…”

“We need attractive Asian-Americans with lively, strong and unique personalities between the ages of 18 to 30 with equally interesting life stories and persepctives to share, especially individuals who know about and/or experienced the Koreatown life.”

“If you are not Asian but are obsessed with Asian culture or people in some way, email us and please explain,”

Tyrese (you know him as the Black army dude from Transformers, your older brother knows him as the Black racer/convict from 2 Fast 2 Furious, your eldest sister still keeps a pinup of him from when he was modeling for Tommy Hilfiger) is said to have been clubbing around in the hotspots of LA’s Koreatown for “research”…I wish I had a job like that.

And here I thought the formula for a successful show was to just simply get a bunch of attractive (horny) looking people together in close proximity, throw in some alcohol and turn on a hot tub. I’m actually not a big fan of reality shows. I hate them. But being an Asian-American, I realize that I too have an Asian-Fetish. So I will be forgoeing my self-imposed ban on Reality Shows to support my Yellow Fellows simply because we simply need more of a presence in the media.

My only concern is the shows premise. The cast will have to undoubtebly exude characteristics that define them as “Asian-American”. The show might do well and I wish it all the best, but it might be for all the wrong reasons. Jersey Shore’s success is built around the character’s portrayal of stereotypes. We enjoy to watch them because we enjoy laughing at them without fear of getting punched in the face…well actually…

Note: The image attached to this post is NOT the cast of this developing series. It’s actually from the first American Sitcom to feature an all Asian cast starring comedian Margaret Cho: All American Girl
